L293D Mortor Drive module

Key Features

  • Dual H-Bridge: Contains four H-bridges, acting as two independent drivers.
  • Motor Control: Drives up to 4 DC motors or 2 stepper motors (bipolar/unipolar).
  • Voltage: Supports motor supply from 4.5V to 36V.
  • Current: Provides up to 600mA per channel (1.2A peak).
  • Arduino Compatible: Plugs directly onto Arduino Uno/Mega, with dedicated pins for control.
  • Protection: Includes built-in diodes for inductive loads and thermal shutdown.
  • Power: Separate terminals for motor and logic power supplies.

How it Works (H-Bridge)

An H-bridge circuit allows you to reverse the polarity of voltage across a motor, enabling it to spin forward and backward, notes Instructables and Avaq Semiconductor. The L293D chip integrates these circuits, letting your microcontroller (like Arduino) easily manage motor direction and speed (using PWM).

Common Uses

  • Robotic cars, drones, and RC vehicles.
  • Automated systems (conveyors, doors).
  • Educational projects teaching motor control.
  • Pan-and-tilt camera mounts.
